Public Comment Period to Collect Input on Two Alcohol Reports that Will Inform the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030

30-Day Comment Period Opens on January 15th

The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) invite the public to submit written comments to the Departments on two reports on alcoholic beverages and health. The public comment period will open tomorrow and remain open for 30 days. The findings from both reports, along with public comments and federal agency input, will be considered by HHS and USDA as the Departments develop guidance on alcoholic beverages in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030.

Read the Reports & Provide Comments

For the process to develop the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030, HHS and USDA determined the topic of alcoholic beverages and health required a comprehensive review with significant, specific expertise. HHS and USDA addressed the scientific reviews on this topic through an HHS committee (the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking, or ICCPUD) and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) working on complementary tracks. Both projects included opportunities for public participation and external scientific peer review. Each scientific review resulted in a report with findings, not recommendations, on alcohol consumption.

Links to both reports, along with additional information about each report and the public comment period, are now available on DietaryGuidelines.gov. HHS and USDA request comments on considerations for the Departments as they use each report to inform guidance on alcoholic beverages in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030.
